The welfare of citizens of Anambra state and the development of the Capital City Development master-plan have been described among the topmost items on the agenda of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party(LP), Dr Ifeanyi Uba.

Dr Ubah who disclosed these at the weekend at a political rally at Njikoka, Anambra Central Senatorial zone in part of series of state-wide campaign tours round the state in his preparation for the November 16, 2013 governorship election said e would continue with the poverty alleviation drive as a deliberate policy of his administration when elected.

According to him, the wellbeing, security and health care of the citizens would remain his main focus. More so, that the mandate to lead which he is seeking is to do good, touch the lives of every citizen of the state irrespective of class, gender, religion or place of origin.

He said that it baffles him that persons occupying leadership positions travel outside the country regularly for leisure, holidays, business and other sundry purposes, but fail to replicate the good governance, accountability and massive development they see overseas in the country.

He therefore pledged to implement the Awka Capital City development Law as passed by the 7th Anambra state Assembly. This, he noted would include massive and aggressive road construction in and around the capital city to integrate it to other parts of the state.

The LP flag-bearer lamented what he saw as on-going unplanned developments with associated litany of abandoned white elephant projects that presently litter the capital city. That Awka is gradually but steadily being turned into an urban slum.

So in order to check its continuation, “we will ensure that Awka Capital City and indeed all of our towns are not only made habitable and lively, but also developed into such a way as to ensure that the environment is sustainable.

“It is unfortunate tha the master-plan developed by the out-going administration, at a huge cost, has been gathering dust on the shelf in the state Ministry of Lands and Survey as well as the Ministry of Works. It is shameful that Arroma Junction-the Capital City centre which is a mere 3-minutes drive from the Government House shows that Awka cannot stand proudly amongst other capital cities in the country.”

When elected, he stressed that his LP administration would combat unplanned construction orks, tackle erosion menace, sanitation, drainages, and assiduously establish sound and solid infrastructure to meet present and future needs of the citizens, among other policies.
