Members of the Labour Party, LP, yesterday in Awka overwhelmingly voted for the
oil magnate and Chief Executive of Capital Oil, Dr Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah as its
flag bearer for the forthcoming Nov16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra
state.

The primary election of the party which was conducted at the main auditorium of
the Emmaus House Complex, Awka was presided over by the national chairman of
the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu.

The chairman who addressed the about 1300 delegates and party supporters from
various wards and council areas of the state who thronged the venue, spoke
glowingly of the exploits of Gov Olusegun Mimiko in Ondo state, assuring that
it would replicate similar administration in Anambra, come next year.

He disclosed that Gov Mimiko has become the World Bank and United Nation’s
benchmark in so many life changing and life enhancing priority projects chosen
by each community. That such would be carried out in Anambra when Ubah becomes
the governor.

Nwanyanwu spoke against the recent deportation of Igbos by the Lagos state
government, thereby urging citizens of Anambra to reject the All Progressives
Congrecc, APC, in the forthcoming election. He noted that it was reprehensible
for a true democrat to take such initiative, especially at the backdrop of the
fact that above 80% of investments in Lagos state were owned by Igbos.

He also dismissed insinuations that the party supported President Goodluck
Jonathan earlier. The move, he admitted was the best option at the time,
stressing that Jonathan was the only good thing to happen to the nation then.
He therefore said the LP has no form of regrets for supporting him come in and
or supporting him stabilize.

He urged citizens to be prepared to come out on the Election Day to vote for the
party, “because in Edo state we cried out to the federal government for
enhanced security, in Ondo we appealed for even more security, and here in
Anambra we are going to seek for more security to ensure that every vote counts
and is counted”.

Ubah who was full of smiles, in his acceptance speech vowed to restore the
glory and dignity of the state and her people when he assumes authority.
