Following recent expulsion of certain key members of the People Democratic Party by the Rivers state party chairman, Hon. Felix Obuah, the governor Chibuike Amaechi led faction of the PDP in different speeches have said since the party executives deliberately expelled the governor including members who are automatic delegates to the party convention they are boycotting the convention slated for Saturday.
Addressing Journalists in a pressing briefing held at Port Harcourt in government house, Hon. Asita .O. Asita member representing the Ahoada West Federal constituency who is also leader of the Rivers state Federal House of Assembly caucus said any individual or group attending the PDP mini convention as representatives from Rivers state are impostors.
According to him, he said they have expressed shock with the party latest development and worried that the party which majority of them have invested their life on is gradually collapsing with association of People without character.
He also said they are equally worried that leadership at the party centre has refused to take credible steps in repositioning the party in order to continuing enjoying the support it has always acquired from it exception.
Revealing that after wide consultations, ten members of federal house of assembly , two senators, the state council chairmen, commissioners, local government party chairmen, twenty-seven members of the state house of assembly who are automatic delegates party convention by virtue of their positions agreed to boycott the convention and urged Rivers people to remain calm and faithful .
Speaking on behalf of the Rivers state commissioners, Hon. Tammy Dana Gogo, commissioner for Urban development said in solidarity to the state governor, they are also boycotting the convention, reiterating that any who would want to parade himself at the convention as Rivers state executives is an impersonator.
Equally, Hon Innocent Bareko member of the Rivers state House of Assembly representing Khana constituency said members of the state assembly are joining the support to boycott the convention.
Further, Hon. Chimbiko Akaroro chairman of Port Harcourt City local government who spoke oh behalf of the council chairmen disclosed that they are also boycotting the convention.
