Its Selective Justice, Says Deputy Speaker

The interrogation of the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd by a crack team of interrogators at Force Headquarters in Abuja has dealt a blow to the camp of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the lawmaker, who was recorded on video hitting Hon. Micheal Chinda, – as it was discovered he may have not incurred any injury during the brawl that took place in the House recently.

Lloyd, who is the most loyal supporter of Amaechi in the House walked straight to the Force Headquarters in Abuja Tuesday after he had failed at the court to stop the police from arresting him on the grounds that he too was injured in the fracas.

The lawmaker was the mouthpiece of the 27 pro Amaechi lawmakers, and had called Amaechi on phone when the five lawmakers and a set of their colleagues with the Governor’s camp impeached the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Otelemabama Amachree.

Immediately after the brawl, Lloyd was pictured lying on a hospital bed receiving drip due to alleged injuries he sustained.

The questioning of Lloyd, according to a source in Abuja will unravel the level of participation by Amaechi’s ADC, Debeware Semeikumo in the beating of Chinda, who is being treated in a London hospital, and some policemen attached to the Governor.

Amaechi’s Chief Security Officer, Tony Iwelu is also wanted for questioning over the incident. The duo have left their duty posts; while Semeikumo has travelled to London for alleged treatment, the whereabouts of Iwelu is unknown.

The state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Amaechi of shielding his ADC, and CSO from arrest over the fracas, where the ADC was videoed kicking and wrestling Chinda to the ground while fleeing from Lloyd.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon.Leyii Kwanee has described the detention of Lloyd as selective, noting that other legislators who participated in the free for all fight are moving about freely.

He said the police should invite those involved in the fracas for questioning, and stressed the need for the release of Lloyd because he voluntarily reported to the police.

He said the people of Rivers State are seeing the State’s Police Commissioner Mr. Mbu as being partial and that the detention of Hon. Lloyd selectively is a confirmation that the entire police Force are acting to script.

Hon. Kwanee who is also the Chairman, Parlaimentary Exchange and Mentorship Programme of the Pan African Parliament, urged the Police to maintain neutrality in the interest of our nascent democracy.

He appealed to the supporters of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to remain calm and law abiding in the face of provocation stressing that persistent sticking to the rule of law is our contribution to avoid the breaking down of law and order pointing out that at the end, peace and sanity will be restored.
