Customers Lament Skyrocketing Prices Of Foodstuff, Perishable Items In Nasarawa

A market survey conducted by 247ureports.com in Nasarawa state uncovered that has Muslims in Nasarawa State who had joined their counterpart in the Muslim world to perform their religious rites – may have resulted in a record breaking skyrocketing of perishable goods in the State. Already, customers are said to lament the hike in foodstuff and perishable items.

Foodstuff like semovita which was sold for N1,700 now goes for N2,200 while small sack that was sold for N800 now goes for N1,200. A measure of Beans which was sold for N300 now goes for N350 while the one that goes for N350 now goes for N400.

The survey showed that the prices of foreign rice hiked to N380 to N400 per measure depending on the variety – while Kano rice which was sold at N300 now sells for N350 – a measure of Local rice which sold for N230 now goes for N250 and the low quality goes for N200.

A bottle of ground nut oil which was sold at N250 now sells for N280 per big bottle of lucozade and the small bottle sells for N140. Palm oil has become hot cake due to the high demand for the commodity. A quantity that sells for N20 now goes for N30-N40.

Others perishable commodities include pineapple and eggs – are reported to have gone beyond the reach of the common man. One freshly boiled egg now sells for N30 while fried one now sells for N50.

Also a loaf of bread which sold for N200 now goes for N220, Bournvita, Ovaltine, Lipton and measure of sugar were also hiked.
