Agency Uncovers 300 Illegal Routes Used By Human Trafickers In Katsina

The  authorities of Kano Zonal office of the National  Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters,  (NAPTIP) yesterday in Kano revealed that they have discovered about 300  illegal routes in Katsina, used by human traffickers  to ferry out their victims out of the country.
 NAPTIP’s  Kano Zonal Commander, Hajiya Khadija Bello said over 50 percent of the  victims from the southern parts of the country were brought to Katsina, from  where they were sneaked out of the Nigeria to various neighbouring countries.
According  to her, about 1,800 victims have been rescued  and rehabilitated while 40 persons have been convicted for various human  trafficking and child abuse offences in recent times.
 Hajiya  Bello who spoke through her Public Relations Officer, Malam Aliyu Abba  Kalli stated that  the agency would  not relent in its effort to combat human trafficking  and other related offenses in the country
She  identified lack of manpower and logistics as parts of their major challenges,  called on concerted effort of individuals to compliment the anti-human  trafficking agency’s efforts.
Meanwhile,  the North West Zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency  (NEMA), Musa Ilallah has reiterated the need for better emergency  response skills among stakeholders in disaster management in the country.
Ilallah stated this during the opening ceremony of a two-day  Training Programme on Modern Day Techniques to further educate the Officers  and men of the Nigerian civil defense corps in Kano.
Also  speaking at the event, Zonal Coordinator of  NEMA North-West, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi said  better emergency response drastically reduce the loss of lives and property  during emergency situations.
In  his own comment, the Commandant of the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, Kano  state Command, Ahmed Alhassan
Muazu noted that the programme will  further equip officers and men of the Command on rapid response skills.
