Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has flagged off the distribution of school materials to government owned schools in the 27 local government areas of the state.
The governor in his speech explained that the materials are procured by the state government to add quality to the free education programme of the rescue mission administration.
He explained that arrangement has been perfected to ensure that the materials which include uniforms, desks, sandals, bags and books get to all schools in the state.
The governor disclosed that under the free education programme, his government has willingly adopted every child in the government owned schools by assuming the responsibility of securing a brighter future for them through the free education declared at all level.
While reiterating the commitment of his rescue mission administration to the free education programme, Gov. Okorocha pointed that efforts have been intensified to complete the 305 model schools by the first quarter of 2014.
He, however, enjoined parents to make good use of the opportunity by sending their children to school as government has relieved them of the burden of payment of school fees.
Gov. Okorocha further disclosed government plan to introduce routine training programme for capacity building of the teachers towards enhancing their teaching skill.
The commissioner for Education, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, earlier in her remarks, commended the governor for the priority he has continuously attached to education.
She assured the governor that her ministry and other stakeholders in the education sector would ensure that the materials are effectively utilized in the schools.
The event also witnessed the presence of the deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere MFR who supervised the distribution of the materials, members of the state executive, sole administrators of the 27 local government areas and head teachers.
