The police reputation in the northern region of Nigeria [Kano State] continues to suffer an odorous and fast fermenting integrity. This is following the daily embarrassment served by the members of the Jihadist inspired group, the Boko Haram – in their uncanny ability to strike the many corners of Kano metropolis without regard to the police officers stationed visibly across the hot spots of the city. Today, another embarrassing ordeal was served the police structure stationed in Kano. Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that two police officers shot and wounded a truck driver over N100 bribe.

According to the information received, two police officers – a sergeant and an inspector – were on duty along the Wudil federal road when they flagged down tanker truck that was on his way into Kano. As the tanker truck stopped, the two officers demanded for the customary ‘roger’ from the driver. The driver willingly offered N100. But the two officers grew visibly angry and demanded that the tanker truck driver step down or step out of his vehicle. Minutes after the driver descended from his truck, the two police officers began shouting intimidating words at the driver – and ‘in a quick flash’ one of the officers shot the driver on the leg.

Other tanker drivers who witnessed the incident quickly rushed the wounded driver was to a nearby clinic where he received treatment. While some of the drivers rushed to the clinic, others laid sieged on the High Way – blocking all traffic flow for nearly six hours in passionate protest. It took the intervention of senior police officers who pleaded with the aggrieved Tanker drivers to vacate the road.

The protest had caused panic and heightened tension within the Kano State University of Science and Technology community as commuters remained stranded along the Wudil expressway for the six hours. The incident occurred near the University campus.

The police top boss in Kano State, Musa Daura in talking to 247ureports.com confirmed the incident. He added that the police department has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officers involved.  The police spokesman, Musa Magaji Majia also confirmed the incident to our Reporter, saying that the truck driver allegedly offered N100 which the policemen considered too small and driver came down to plead with them when suddenly the sergeant on duty fired and injured his leg.
