Kano Mass Wedding: 20 Women Dropped for being HIV Positive

Kano State government has dropped 25 women billed to participate in the third-batch of the 1000 couple proposed for a scheduled mass wedding. This is as it was discovered 5 out the 1000 tested positive for pregnancy and 20 tested positive for HIV.

In confirming the news, the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board in Kano, northern Nigeria, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa noted that it was taboo in Islam for pregnant women to participate in weddings. He further added that in each of the 44 councils – wedding prayer session for 21 couples would be held, while the mass wedding for the remaining 76 couples would be conducted in the state capital.
247ureports.com learnt that the Hisbah Board earmarked the sum of N10 million for dowries to the brides along with items such as furniture and other house-hold materials.

Alhaji Isiyaka Rabi’u and the Governor of the Central Bank (CBN), Sunusi Lamido Sanusi had also donated N2 million and N1 million respectively to the new couples. Alhaji Gambo Danpass also donated 200 bundles of lace material for the participants, while GLO Mobile Telecommunication Company donated 2, 000 sim cards for distribution to the couples.
