The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has blamed the kidnap of Ejigbo Local Government Chairman, Mr. Kehinde Bamgbetan, on the security lapses in Lagos State.
Reacting to the news of his release, the Executive Chairman of CACOL, Debo Adeniran averred that the lapses in the security situation in Lagos State contributed to the kidnap of Mr. Bamgbetan.
“It is so disheartening that a whole Local Government Chairman could be abducted and released at the will of the kidnappers despite the huge sum spent on security in the state. The kidnap and the N15m ransom paid before the local government boss was released, as speculated in some section of the media, shames the Lagos State government and its security operatives. It shows the huge allocation given to a mega state like Lagos, all in the name of security votes, is not yielding the desired result.
Who knows who is next on the list of the kidnappers? The government claimed that the presence of okada on the major highways contributed to high rate of robbery cases and other social vices, but it is rather unfortunate that apart from the accident they claimed has reduced on our roads, crime rate is still on the high side. We are taking this time to congratulate Mr. Kehinde Bamgbetan, for his eventual release from the hands of the kidnappers,” Adeniran submitted.
He however tasked every Lagosian with security since the government seems not to have solution to the increasing crime rate in Lagos, and the country at large.
There is need for every public and private person to take care of their own security because the government, despite all the claims, has proven that they are incapable of securing lives and properties. The main function of government is the security of lives and welfare of the populace, but it is rather unfortunate that neither the security nor the welfare of Lagosians, is being taken care of by Lagos State government.
