Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says elected Local Government authorities will henceforth contribute their quota to complement the efforts of the state government in developing the state, saying the days when the local governments were seen as drain pipes were gone.

Speaking at campaign rallies of the Action Congress of Nigeria at Etsako East, West and Central Local Government Areas, the governor said: “the local government must be doing something. I want a local government that would use our resources and build schools. That is why the last transitional council, I told them that they must also build more schools.  What the State and the State and Local Government are building schools, sooner than late, all the schools would be of the same standard”.

“It is important that we do not allow the People Democratic Party (PDP) to resurrect. The People Democratic Party has pauperized the people and reduced them to nothing. For all the sins of the PDP, Edo people have dismissed the PDP and buried it”.

He said “we have a lot of jobs we are going to do in the local governments. Do not say we have already won. No, we couldn’t have won when the elections have not taken place.  You must vote and those votes must be counted.  You know our policy is one man, one vote”.

Oshiomhole appealed to those who did not make the nominations to understand that in every contest, only one person would win.  “The other who lost, it is not necessarily because he is bad, but two people cannot win one game.  In this business, only one person wins an office, but the man who did not win today, if it is God’s will, next time he could win.

“You don’t say because you did not win, you are going to destroy the house.  If you say you are going to destroy the house, it means, you did not deserve in the first instance to contest for the office”.

Stressing the need for the voters to be steadfast, Oshiomhole said “let the people understand that their vote matters and also thank them for their support in the last governorship election”.

The governor assured the people that the Chairmen would be accountable to the people for their actions.

Oshiomhole later presented Abdulmalik Afegbua as ACN Chairmanship candidate of Etsako East Local Government; Mr. Emmanuel Momoh as Chairmanship candidate of Etsako Central and Mr. Hassan Kadiri as Chairmanship candidate  of Etsako West Local Government Area.
