INEC will not register APC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday defended the commission’s guidelines for the registration of new political parties, and stated that the procedure is first come first serve. The electoral body explained that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is not known to the commission. The commission said the implication that there is already a group with the name African Peoples Congress (APC) that has submitted its documents for registration as a political party, means that the coalescing of opposition political parties to form the All Progressive Congress (APC) acronym must be changed to avoid confusion.

The chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, My Kayode Idowu, has earlier told newsmen that the African Peoples Congress (APC), has approached the electoral body for registration as a political party last week.
