The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano said it has shot dead a member of the insurgents’ team that was responsible for the killing of a Mobile Police commander in Kano on Tuesday.

The security outfit also arrested another member of the group, a reliable security source disclosed to Daily Trust yesterday. The source further revealed that the service pistol of the slain officer had been found on the suspects.

Gunmen had on Monday night ambushed the commander of Police Mobile Force squadron 9 in Kano, SP Dahiru Ibrahim Majia, and shot him dead in front of his residence at Layin Transformer in Sabuwar Gandu suburb of Kano.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the source said the attackers had after killing the officer, carted away his official pistol, adding that the said weapon had been recovered.

According to him, the suspects’ vehicle was intercepted by a JTF checkpoint on a highway leading to a neighbouring state on Wednesday afternoon, following which a search on it uncovered the pistol.

He said one of the occupants of the said vehicle attempted to escape, but was gunned down by security forces manning the post.

“I can authoritatively tell you that the people we got have very strong connection with attack on the police officer,” the source said.

The security personnel further disclosed that the task force was already interrogating the arrested suspect, with a view to gather information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the insurgents’ team.
