Killed Police Officer Buried, As CP Vows To Fish Out Killers

Police authorizes in Kano, northern Nigeria have Tuesday evening confirmed the death of Superintendent of Police, Dahiru Ibrahim Majia who was gunned down Monday night by terrorists suspected to be foot soldiers of the Islamic Boko Haram sect.

He was buried earlier Tuesday morning at about 9 at Tarauni cemetery with huge crowd of sympathizers, including officers and men who wailed and cried, describing him as a nice, humble and gallant officer.

It was learnt that the late Dahiru just got married, last week Friday to the daughter of a popular business man, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, just few year after mourning his late wife.

The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Musa A. Daura in a Press briefing at his office Tuesday evening described Dahiru’s death as, “unfortunate and a huge loss to the Kano state Police Command.”

According to him, “a reasonable number of arrests was made immediately after the incident—and we have commenced investigation; after investigation, we will call you and let you the outcome.”

“On 25 February, 2013, at about 8 p.m., unknown gunmen ambushed the Commanding Officer, Mopol 9 Hotoro, Kano, SP Dahiru Ibrahim Majia while returning home from office at Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, Kano.

“The assailants opened fire sporadically on the officer, killing him instantly. On hearing the gunshots, Police men were immediately deployed for cordon and search in the area as a result of which some suspects were arrested and are undergoing investigation and screening.

“The Command will thoroughly investigate the matter to its logical conclusion with a view to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act. We further urge members of the public to continue cooperating with the Command in its battle against terrorism and criminal activities in the state by providing relevant and timely information through our 24 hours emergency lines which are 08032419754, 08123821575, 064977004, 06497705 and 08099831808,” Daura stated.
