The continued insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria appears to bring new threats to the security administrative structure and its human resources. This is as 247ureports.com has gathered of a new talk of reshuffling within the national security structure of the country owing to the persistent insecurity within select northern States in Nigeria – particularly, the north western state of Kano.

Following the killing of nine health care workers in the early morning hours of February 8, 2013 in select neighborhoods of Kano State, the Inspector General of Police [IGP], Muhammadu Dahiru Abubakar in the company of the Federal Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade – arrived Kano State in panic to commiserate with the people and Government of Kano State over the attack on the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, which claimed six lives – and also over the nine women gun down by suspected Jihadists.

Speaking in Kano, the IGP indicated that the culprits responsible for the killing of the nine women on routine immunization exercise in the State will be caught and brought to justice soon. He added also that the police have swung into action to track down the perpetrators of the attack on the Emir of Kano.

The killing of nine women should not be described as a security collapse, the security agents are on the trail of the culprits, in due course – there would be no hiding place for those behind the heinous crime. What is needed for now is to fortify security” stated the IGP who sources within the IGP’s office reveal has been under intense pressure to reverse the increasing trend of attacks by suspected Jihadists in Kano State and other northern States in Nigeria.

The IGP is reported to have been receiving unpleasant treatment from within his department over his action to remove police officers from the highways – and the removal of roadblocks. The source reveals that the ranking officers within the police department have been preoccupied with the toppling of the IGP from his office. “The IGP is aware” says the source who adds that the IGP for this reason believes that the presidency may be pressured to take an unpleasant decision should the incessant attacks continue unchecked.

It was on this note that the IGP lamented the attack on the Emir’s convoy as very disturbing – while assuring that steps have been put in place to tackle the lingering security challenges.

He managed to cast a favorable light on his administration by enumerating some of successes by the police. He mentioned that some of the suspects responsible for the attack on Emir have already been apprehended. “We shall not be deterred in the task before us, some time, some day, we will overcome the challenges. We will do everything within our capacity to restore peace to the ancient city of Kano. We urge the people of the state to assist the police in provide relevant information, as well as intelligence reports that will help the police to knell the perpetrators of such crimes”.

The previous IGP was removed by the President following activities deemed sympathetic to the aspirations of the Jihadist group – the Boko Haram. Other top ranking police officers were also removed unceremoniously from the police force owing to the same reasons.

The Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was not present to receive the Minister of Police Affairs and the IGP. He was out of town. He was represented by his deputy; Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
