The prevalence of Islamic based insecurity in the many parts of northern Nigeria appears to have found solace in the arms of a few select top government officials responsible for security upkeep in their respective states. Of particular mention is the state administration of Kano under the leadership of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] governor of Kano State.
Information available to 247ureports.com obtained through sources within the security apparatus in Kano revealed that the Government of Kano State may have found a cash cow in the unfolding insecurity situation in the State. The competent source who spoke under the cloak of secrecy revealed that the State Government in Kano – who is responsible for the welfare of the Joint Task Force [JTF] stationed in Kano – has not lived up to the task. He states that their living arrangements and feedings were reduced to the level of “near beggars”. The source continued that “they give us bread and sardine for breakfast – and local white rice with red oil for lunch”.

When our correspondent visited the men of JTF during their meal-time, it was observed that they were served in a manner underserving of Nigeria’s top field marshals stationed at the frontlines of an unfolding National catastrophe. They were served in plastic plates and some were served in Styrofoam plates – while the served portions were rationed heavily. In terms of the living arrangement, the agents are said to be sharing living spaces in bunks.
Meanwhile, the Kano State is reported to earmark the sum of N120million per month for the feeding of the men of JTF – an amount equivalent to N1.44billion per year [or N4million per day]. The JTF numerical strength in Kano is estimated at below 5,500.
When the image maker of the Kano State government, Prof Farouk was contacted regarding the supposed discrepancy alleged by the men of JTF over their feeding, Prof Farouk waved the allegation aside – stating that the JTF agent had his facts wrong. It can be recalled that Kano State in the recent wave of attacks have received the hottest and most violent attacks from the Islamic based terrorist group, the Boko Haram – killing over 400 Muslims and non-Muslims – and damaging over N4billion worth of landed properties. Many within the non-Muslim community had since departed Kano State for the southern parts of the country. Investors are reported to have also departed the State following the wave of violence sweeping across the predominantly Muslim State.
