Abia state commissioner of Police, Mr. Ambrose Aisabor has threatened to sack any policeman who accompanies contractors to collect revenue.

Aisabor who stated this in a chat with journalists in his office, maintained that policemen are no revenue collectors, but enforcers of the law, warning that anyone caught collecting revenue would be dismissed.

247ureports.com.com gathered that the CP’s warning came on the heels of the revenue consultants in the state who engage policemen and soldiers humiliating and arresting residents in the name of revenue collection.

“No organization, whether private or public, has my authority for police to assist his agency in collecting revenue.

“I have received several applications on that, but I turned them down because it is not the duty of the police to collect revenue.

“I know the State Government engaged a revenue consultant and the police was duly informed, but police is not under any obligation to give the consultant policemen,’’ he said.

He insisted that any policemen caught accompanying any revenue team without authorization from the commissioner of police wills definitely loss his or her job.

Aisabor noted that the warning became necessary to absolve the police from any such act that had made critics to blackmail the police in the past.

“If you want to collect your revenue, go about it in a lawful manner. If somebody refuses to pay, take him or her to the law court for necessary actions that is how things are done in refined society.’’

He said that time has gone when tax agents and revenue collectors would use the police to harass residents, stressing that revenue collection is not the duty of the police.

Aisabor lamented that the development has dealt a bad blow to the image of the police, and warned policemen to desist form it.

The CP also commended Gov. Theodore Orji for his support to security agencies in the state.

247ureports.com investigation revealed that residents of the state have continued to lament the activities of revenue teams backed up by policemen who invade their homes to harass and arrest them.
