PRESS RELEASE

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade at the weekend dedicated an award of excellence for zero tolerance on drug trafficking presented to the Agency by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Lagos Chapel to officers that lost their lives in the line of duty. Giade said that the fallen heroes numbering over 100 deserve more because they paid the supreme price of fighting the drug war. The Award of Excellence was part of activities marking the NUJ/FRCN Lagos Chapel 2012 Press Week.

FRCN Lagos Chapel of the NUJ, Mrs. Bimbo Oyetunde said that the activities of the awardees have given hope to many people. In her words, “the awardees of today were carefully selected going by their giant strides towards the socio-political and economic growth of our dear country. NDLEA Director of Administration and Finance, Dr Daniel Ismaila, an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) who received the Award on behalf of the Anti-Narcotic Agency said that the award will remain memorable because of its significance to Nigeria’s drug control efforts. According to Ismaila, “the essence of awards is to recognize excellence and encourage others to work towards recognition. Every society that desires development must rise above obsolete culture of impunity and strike a balance between awards and punishment”.

He added that the Agency could surpass its past records if given more funds. “The Agency can achieve far beyond its past records if we have more funding. Drug barons are daily seeking better and more efficient ways of smuggling narcotics. The NDLEA must rise to the demands of latest technology in tackling the drug problem” Ismaila stated.
