Information available to 247ureports.com through sources close to the activities within the presidency indicate that the former federal minister of power, Prof Barth Nnaji may have been sacked without notice on the evening of August 28, 2012.  The former Minister of Power, Prof Barth Nnaji became aware of his sacking through the television [Channels TV], stated a source who spoke with thr former Minister.

According to information received through an impeccable source, the former Minister’s sacking may have come as a result of his latent squabbles with the Federal Minister of Petroleum Resources, Madam Diezani Allison Madueke. It was learnt that the former minister for power had involved himself in a tussle with Diezani Allison Madueke over the privatization modalities of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria [PHCN].

In talking to our correspondent, the source recalled that Prof Barth Nnaji accession to the post of Power Minister had been facilitated by Madam Diezani Allison Madueke – due to her closeness to President Goodluck Jonathan.  According to the source, the federal minister of petroleum resources felt a ‘debt’ was owed for her role. Prof Barth Nnaji was reported to have not been as responsive.

The source added also that the Presidency had believed that the former power minister, Prof Barth Nnaji was plotting to corner some of the more lucrative power stations – himself and his wife – through their company,  Geometric Power. The source also added that ultimately, “Prof Barth Nnaji was sacked because of pressure from power sector cabal” – as he explained that the President bowed to the political pressures of the power sector cabals – who had interest in the PHCN privatization scheme.
