Tragedy was averted at Aba South local government of Abia State yesterday as workers locked out their Heads of Departments who were in a meeting at the council secretariat.

247ureports.com gathered that the workers protested the payment of one month arrears of the minimum wage, instead of the two months which was said to have been approved for them.

The irate workers chased out visitors to the council including their Obingwa counterparts who were at the council to receive their arrears of the minimum wage.

It was further gathered that the workers insisted on not receiving the one month arrears which was made available despite pleas from their leaders.

Recall that council workers in Abia state are being owed three months arrears of salaries.  The workers embarked on a warning strike last week, while the government promised to pay up before the second day of August.

Sources hint that the promise may not be kept. According to them, there are no signs that the two months the governor promised to pay would be available as planned.” I don’t think the promise will be kept. I have made calls to those who should know but they said nothing is happening. Even the Biometric data people are no longer coming. The governor’s promises expires tomorrow, let us wait, “a worker told 247ureports.com
