The National leadership of the All Progressives grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed the on-going leadership crises in the party where an aide of the Anambra state Governor, Chief Sylvester Nwobu-Alor supposedly announced the sack of both the national and state executives of the party as a mere flash in the pan.

The National Working Committee  (NWC) of the party, speaking through the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Alfred Nwosu, in a press briefing at the state Secretariat Awka yesterday, stated that there were laid down procedures enshrined in the party’s constitution through which aggrieved members vent their grievances.

The party chief was reacting to Tuesday’s announcement by a group of party members that all the national and state excos of the party has been sacked “to pave way for restructuring the new APGA”.

According to him, “the leadership of the party heard about the rumpus and the announced dissolution and reconstitution of our executive in the media, like every other person.

“We therefore emphasize here that we are unaware of the move, We reaffirm our implicit confidence in the national leadership of the party led by Chief Victor Umeh as well as the Anambra  state executive.”

Nwosu expressed doubts about the membership status of Nwobu-Alor, the alleged ring leader of the “dissident members”. He said that a committee would soon be set up to look into the issue with a view to unraveling the sources, causes and sponsors of the crises, and to recommend appropriate sanctions. He said that the party notes with serious concern the characteristic rabble –rousing, name-calling and rascality of the elder statesman who supposed to be a top chieftain of APGA.

He pointed out that the NWC sent him to Anambra to douse the tension generated by the said announcement, especially when it coincided with some other political issues that affects the party.

The party chief admitted that the Nwobu-alor escapades had never been raised or discussed with the governor before now, and assured they would raise it now with him.

However the state secretary of the party, Okoli Akirika confirmed that Nwobu-Alor is a card-carrying founding member of the party.

Nwobu-Alor in a reaction simply wished away their comments as coming from uninformed persons. He wondered whether they imagined that he was acting on his own and that he was merely rooting for reforms in the party hierarchy. He is the uncle to Gov Obi, and was the chairman of his campaign organisation both in 2003 and 2010.
